Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
This document simply explains how the Astera Code application works, what information it handles, and under what conditions you may use it. We have tried to write it clearly, without unnecessary legal jargon.
1. Introduction
Astera Code is a free mobile application published by RCBG, which allows you to learn programming in French through lessons, quizzes, and source code projects. By installing and using Astera Code, you accept the terms described below. If you do not agree with any of these terms, we invite you not to use the application.
2. App publisher
Astera Code is developed and published by RCBG, a sole proprietorship based in Cameroon. RCBG is solely responsible for the content, operation, and maintenance of the application.
- Trade name: RCBG
- Status: sole proprietorship (self-employed)
- Country of operation: Cameroon
- Contact: rcbg25i2040@gmail.com
3. What data is collected
Astera Code is designed to work without an account and without a connection. Concretely, here is what happens during the first launch and while using the application:
- Nickname / first name — freely entered during the first opening, displayed only in your profile.
- Gender (boy / girl) — used only to choose the avatar icon displayed in the application. No other use is made of it.
- Learning progress — completed lessons, quiz scores, consecutive day streaks.
- Display preferences — chosen color theme, light or dark mode, sound and vibration settings.
Astera Code never asks for your full name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, or access to your camera or microphone. None of these items are required to use the application.
4. Where does my data go
All the information mentioned above stays only on your device. It is stored in a local database, never transmitted to a server, never shared with RCBG or with a third party. We technically have no way to view your personal data, your progress, or your statistics.
If you uninstall the application, all of this data is permanently deleted from your device. There is no online backup or way to recover it after uninstallation — which is why we recommend that you do not uninstall the application if you wish to keep your progress.
4.1 Data security
All data stored locally on your device is protected by Android's native security mechanisms (application sandboxing, storage encryption if enabled). RCBG cannot access this data, even in the event of a security breach on our servers (we do not have any for user storage).
4.2 Retention period
Local data is kept as long as the application remains installed on your device. Uninstallation results in the immediate and permanent deletion of all data. There is no external backup or retention period.
5. Technical permissions used
The application may request the following permissions, each limited to a specific use:
Notifications
To send you optional daily reminders inviting you to continue your learning. These can be disabled at any time in the application or phone settings.
Vibration
Used only for tactile feedback from the interface (for example when validating an answer). No data is collected on this occasion.
Internet connection
Used exclusively for loading ads. All educational content (lessons, quizzes, guides, projects) works offline.
6. Advertising
Astera Code is completely free. To finance its development and maintenance, the application displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob, in two forms:
- a discreet advertising banner, visible in certain places of the application;
- a full-screen advertisement, displayed occasionally after the end of a lesson or after viewing a source code project.
These advertisements never interrupt a lesson or quiz in progress. Google AdMob may use your device's advertising identifiers to deliver ads, which may be personalized or not depending on your privacy settings and the regulations applicable in your country. RCBG does not receive or store any of the data used by Google for this purpose. To learn more about how Google advertising works, please consult Google's advertising policy.
6.1 Advertising consent
In accordance with the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, users in the European Economic Area (EEA) can control the personalization of advertisements through their Android device settings:
- Disable personalization — Settings → Google → Ads → Disable "Personalized ads"
- Delete the advertising identifier — Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising identifier
Astera Code respects these choices and does not bypass the user's consent settings.
6.2 International data transfers
Google AdMob may transfer and process advertising data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), notably to the United States. Google applies appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers. For more details, please consult the Google privacy policy.
7. Minor users
Astera Code does not set a strict age restriction: the application is aimed at anyone wishing to learn programming, including the youngest accompanied or not by an adult. Since no personally identifiable data is collected or transmitted, use by a minor does not present any particular risk of data disclosure. Parents wishing to supervise the use of the application can do so via their phone's native parental control tools (Family Link, Play Store restrictions, etc.).
7.1 COPPA compliance
Astera Code does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 years of age. In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), no identifiable information is collected, stored, or transmitted to third parties. If a parent or guardian discovers that their child has provided personal information, they may contact us at rcbg25i2040@gmail.com to request its deletion.
8. Your rights over your data
Because your data stays only on your device, you retain total and permanent control over it:
- Consultation — all your progress is visible directly in the Profile tab of the application.
- Modification — your nickname, theme, and preferences can be changed at any time in the settings.
- Deletion — uninstalling the application immediately and permanently deletes all data stored locally.
For any question relating to your data or this policy, you can write to us at rcbg25i2040@gmail.com.
8.1 GDPR rights (European users)
If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA), you benefit from additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Right of access — You can request a copy of your data (all stored locally on your device).
- Right to rectification — You can modify your nickname and preferences at any time in the application.
- Right to erasure — Uninstalling the application immediately deletes all local data.
- Right to data portability — Since your data is local, you can export it manually if necessary.
- Right to object — You can disable personalized ads through Android settings.
- Right to lodge a complaint — You can contact your national data protection authority if you believe your rights are not being respected.
To exercise these rights, contact us at rcbg25i2040@gmail.com.
9. Terms of use
By installing Astera Code, you accept the following rules of use, intended to ensure a healthy experience for all users.
9.1 Authorized use
Astera Code is provided for educational purposes. You can freely consult the lessons, take the quizzes, and consult or modify locally the source code of the projects included in the application, for your personal learning.
9.2 Prohibited use
- Decompiling, disassembling, or attempting to extract the source code of the application itself.
- Reselling, redistributing, or republishing the application or its educational content in any form whatsoever.
- Using the application for illegal purposes or to develop malicious tools.
- Attempting to disrupt the operation of the application or to bypass its advertising mechanisms.
10. Intellectual property
All educational content (lessons, quizzes, guides), the design, the logo, the name "Astera Code", and the "RCBG" brand are the exclusive property of RCBG, unless otherwise stated. Any unauthorized reproduction is prohibited.
The source code projects included in the application (notepad, social network, showcase site, and web mini-projects) are provided for learning purposes. You can study them, modify them, and draw inspiration from them freely for your own personal projects. Any direct commercial reuse of the code as is, without modification or added value, is not authorized.
11. Liability
Astera Code is provided "as is". RCBG makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of the educational content and the proper functioning of the application, but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability or the total absence of errors. RCBG cannot be held responsible for use of the source code provided in a professional or production context without prior verification by the user.
12. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy and these terms of use may be updated periodically, notably in the event of changes to the application or applicable regulations. The date of last update is indicated at the top of this page. We invite you to consult it regularly.
12.1 Applicable law and jurisdiction
This policy is governed by Cameroonian law. In the event of a dispute, the competent courts will be those of the location of RCBG's headquarters in Cameroon, unless contrary mandatory legal provisions apply.
13. Contact
For any question regarding this policy, your data, or the application in general, you can contact RCBG at any time:
